i will work to make san francisco truly a transit city. a developed country is not one where poor people have cars, it is where rich people take public transportation. muni needs to be a viable, efficient, safe and clean transit option for everybody in san francisco. i want to work to make that happen as supervisor. i also will do the simple things like fix the road and the sidewalks that are in disrepair in district five which limit the mobility of seniors and the disabled. as supervisor i will support small businesses. i will talk to small business people in district five, they say that are feeling squeezed by skyrocketing grants and red tape and competition for big box stores. i will represent at city hall to address the issues that effect the bottom line. i will work to protect the character and the culture and the diversity of our city by supporting development projects that are consistent with the san francisco value and support our pressing need for affordable housing. as supervisor, i will work hard to improve public safety. i don'

we have 90,000 students at the city college in san francisco. half of them are actually learning english as a second language because san francisco is an entry point for immigrants. and so, often we encourage immigrants to learn english and become citizens and without those courses at the city college they would not have those opportunities. so it is actually critical that we make sure that that institution is funded and that it is protected and that it is fiscally accountable. and we need to make sure that they are teaching classes like the solar class that i helped to advocate for. we now have classes at the campus to learn how to install solar on people's roofs because of the great system that we have here in san francisco. >> you touched on the immigrant community and this is a question from the audience. governor brown vetoed both the trust act and the domestic workers bill last week, how did you feel about those pieces of legislation. >> i was disappointed. i mean one of the issues that we have debated here in san francisco was directly wh

this measure would get san francisco city government into the business of making home loans. this is part of what brought on the economic crisis at the federal level, fannie mae and freddie mac giving out home loans to people who couldn't afford to buy and later had their houses foreclosed. we don't know what's going to happen in the housing market for the next 30 years. i think it's foolish to set aside increasing set amounts of money for the next 3 decades when we know right now that there's thousands of people living on the streets. why not just build as many affordable units now as possible and do that by getting government out of the way with all its red tape and regulations and taxes and union work rules that increase the cost of housing. that would be a better way to get affordable housing, not bringing back this redevelopment agency with its legacy of driving african americans out of the fillmore and they had slated more than half the bay area for redevelopment before they were shut down. >> anything you'd like to add, peter? >> there's a number of assertions from my
